Drive Belt Rubs Lower Hose - 2012 F150 5.0L
Hoping for some guidance. My water pump was leaking and the idler pulley was whining. Normally, I do my own work and replacing a water pump isn't beyond my experience. But, I decided that I would take it to my local ford dealer and have them do the work. They couldn't get me in for a couple of weeks and I need to use my truck for a long trip before then, so I picked up all the parts and decided to do it myself.
I installed the new pump and an upper hose assembly and then reinstalled the accessory drive belts. I noticed that the belt rubs against the lower radiator hose. More specifically, the oil cooler hose that is part of the larger radiator hose. I couldn't figure out why and double-checked the belt route schematics against how I had it installed and it is correct. For whatever reason, I thought maybe it wouldn't be a problem, but when I start up the engine, you can hear the sound of the rub and it is starting to scar the hose.
I have looked it over what feels like a dozen times taking the belt on and off. I even tried a different route, but the belly would have to be a different size.
I can't be the only one to have had this happen and hope that someone has the answer. It feels like it must be something simple that I am missing.
Anyway, whatever help is out there I would very much appreciate it.
The impacted hose is right above the oil filter. I uploaded a pic, but it was too large.
Thanks
Pete

A very important question, do you know if the belt was contacting the hose before you did the work?
Did you replace the tensioner or idler pulley?
There are several variations of belt routing for the same engine depending on accessories involved, are you looking at the specific diagram for your particular set up?
There is usually a belt routing diagram under the hood or on the radiator support on every vehicle . Are you using that diagram or a different one?

Thanks for your reply. You are right, I should have noted the contact prior to performing the work. As it turns out, one of the ports of the oil cooler was bent. It may have happened during the work as some items had fallen in that area. After fixing the bent port, no more contact is occurring and everything seems to be working fine.
I was so frustrated because I couldn't see the problem at the time, but after taking a break and nearly giving up, I decided one last look from under the vehicle. I reached up to feel the hose and assess the damage. Then I noted that the metal port was bent and it was easy to put it back in place. I inspected the cooler and there doesn't seem to be any issues.
Thanks again
