Default Drive belt tensioner 01' F150

Hi, I have a 2001 F-150, 6 cyl.
My Haynes manual is wrong in the picture about where the tensioner is, and how to adjust it. I have to replace my drive belt, and need to loosen the tensioner to get it on. I can see on the sticker how to route the belt, however, my haynes book has 7 pulleys, and i have 8. I have it narrowed down to 2 that it could be, also, how tight is right, once i get it loose and the new one on?
thanks, Joe

Welcome to the site..

The 'non' A/C have 7 pulleys, A/C optioned have 8.

Rotate the tensioner 'counterclockwise' with the hex on the belt pulley on the tensioner to release the belt tension. The tensioner will set the correct belt tension once the new belt is installed..

Yes,,, #8 is the belt pulley on the tensioner assy.

Easy way to tell not only which is the tensioner, and the direction to rotate it to loosen the belt is to get a good hold on the belt and give it a sturdy pull. You'll see the arm/pulley of the tensioner hub rotate slightly. Thats the direction you want to continue to rotate the tensioner to get enough clearence to remove the belt...
