Ecoboost engine whistling - total failure
Hi. I have a 2016 3.6 litre eco boost. There was whistling that was diagnosed as a manifold issue. Before I could get it repaired I had a total engine failure. Motor plus turbos to be replaced. No warranty. I contacted Ford and they could care less. An engine with 130k Kms should not fail. No more Fords for me and be careful if there is a whistling sound.
Could you share some info with us,please?
What exactly does total failure mean?
How much time between diagnosis and failure?
Has vehicle been receiving recommended service as specified in owner's manual?
All this info is needed to maybe provide some assistance.
Were you able to obtain a second or third opinion for such a large expense?
Vehicles with turbos can produce a whistling sound if an air leak is present between the turbo and manifold which is not that serious, just produces some power loss.

Hi, total failure meaning both engine and turbos need to be replaced. Oil left engine and filled intercooler and must have been burning. There was no check engine or oil pressure issues and failure occurred as I was trying to get off the highway due to smoking and loss of power. About 4 weeks between first noticing the sound and the failure. All service was done. I did not get a second opinion.
Unfortunately, engines don't run very long when they run out of oil.
Unless you could definitely hear bad engine noise, it may only require replacing a defective turbo and cleaning all the intake system of the oil.
It is not smart to attempt to second guess over the net as compared to actually seeing and hearing the engine run.
Of course,,,we now know we should not have waited to have the necessary repairs done, but that is water over the bridge and we have to deal with it.
Is it possible for you to obtain a second opinion without upsetting the shop that offered the last diagnosis?

Engine will not turn over or hold oil. I trust that it is dead. Too late for another opinion. Replacement is in process. $$$. Thanks for replying my only hope was that I could convince Ford to help me out. This should not have happened to a vehicle with 80 000 miles.
