engine swap vs head repair?

If it were mine I'd replace the the engine with a new long block not used that way you get a new engine and not someone else's headache granted some of the new engines may not last as long as that one did but, you should get a warranty with a new one and if something goes wrong with it you don't have to pay for the labor of having fixed

Do you have any info as to where I can a new long block v8?

just about any of the parts stores will carry them all you have to do is ask about one see how much money they want for it

You'll have to reuse the parts like the plennum the oil pan and things such as that but you still get a new motor
