Hi, new to the forum Ihave a 1992 f-150 5.0 the fast idol will not kick down and it runs rich burning lots of gas.I ran the code reader and nothing comes up. anybody got any ideas of the problem?

 

It sounds like the electric choke is stuck. Try spraying some carb cleaner into your trottle body to see if it frees anything up.

 

I had the same problem with my 1995 Jeep Cherokee, it would idle really fast. It wound up being a series of things with that vehicle, but essentially a thermostat on the engine was out.

THEN AGAIN on my 99 f150, that was the throttle pressure sensor - replaced it and bam, problem solved. Easy Fix too. Best of luck my friend.

 

problem solved. it was the plenum gasket. thanks for the replies!
