fuel pump question
Ok 2000 f150 v8 5.4 triton not getting fuel started and died with starter fluid, relay clicks, fuel filter clear, power to pump, back probed fuel pump connector to 12v and it turned on twice with a lower tone than normal and wont turn on anymore when back probing even out of tank. It was hard start at first had to push down on gas to help it out, no prime every time it didnt start now it cranks no start at all. So i think it could be fuel pump I ordered the motor or idk what its called cylinder at bottom of FP bc the assemlbly is ok but i also noticed wires to the fuel regulator is black as if it could be shorted idk, is this normal? Would it affect the FP at all its not a the main wires but wires to the fuel level mecanism. Having trouble posting pic but its the two "brain" wired not main power wires one yellow goes to the fuel level mecanism and the other is pink and orange seems kinda like a ground wire but probably not idk it connects by a bolt to the frame where the fuel level mechanism sits hope someone can understand what im talking about
When you first turn the key on you should hear the fuel pump run for approx. 2 seconds.
Do you hear that?
The PCM(computer) turns it on for 2 seconds by grounding the fuel pump relay.
If you don't hear it, you need to confirm power and ground at the fuel pump module in the tank. If you have a good ground (cleaned and tight) and have power at the pump it should run. The PCM gets an RPM signal when cranking from the crank sensor and allows the fuel pump relay to close providing power to the pump assy. Depending on what you find will determine your next move.
Loads of good fuel pumps get replaced because good grounds and power were not confirmed and then the connections get checked.
