Default Ignition coils and Spark Plugs

Took my 1997 ford f-150 truck to autozone, because my check engine light was on and it showed I need to replace the plugs or coils. I am going to do both, but was going to buy everything off ebay, because it is cheaper even for motorcraft. I have a few questions.

1. Has anyone used anything other then motorcraft coils? The motorcraft for all 8 are about 150 bucks. I see other ones that are 50 bucks and up for the set and some of the other brands have a 2 or 5 year warranty. Has anyone bought any other then motorcraft and have good luck. Also is copper or aluminum better to bu as coils as well?

2. Is it better to buy regular motorcraft spark plugs or would autolite platinum be better or are they about the same?

I only put about 100 miles a month on the truck, so I don't have enough money to buy 8.00 spark plugs or anything to expensive, but I want the truck to run good. Any feed back would help. First time I have had to buy ignition coils as I've only had vehicles that had wires and I've never bought motorcraft for them and they ran fine, but I'm not sure about ignition coils.

I have found that you get better service and longevity using genuine Motorcraft parts in Ford products. Where you get them is up to you and there is nothing wrong with looking for the best price as long as the quality is there.
A little note; "The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of price is forgotten" .
I believe Autolite is OK , but Fords for some reason "like" Motorcraft plugs and run better with them.

I wouldn't put autolite spark plugs in any thing that burns gas. they have a tendency to foul out and not perform anywhere near way motorcraft does. and copper conducts better than aluminum does big difference in resistance.

What is the difference between the sp-479 and sp-459 motorcraft spark plugs? Is there a big difference or are they about the same?

I believe it has something to do with the tip configuration.

First off what P030X code you get? For that cylinder change the coil. Then change all spark plugs, there is no need to buy all new coils don't waste your money.

he needs to get in touch with Ford or consult with the owners manual to see what the company recomends as far as the part numbers on the plugs and see what it came out with. most of the time it comes down to money and how much of it that one wants to spend on their vehicle. one almost always get what they pay for.
