Default ignition problems

I have a 99 F-150 5.4 XLT truck with about 250,000 miles on it. I have developed a miss in the engine with no codes being thrown. The truck idles fine with no sound of it missing. It only misses when the truck is under a load. Like going up a hill. And I am feathering the gas. If I get on it the truck runs fine. I would hate to change out each ignition coil one by one till I get it fixed. That seems to be a waste of time. The Ford dealership wants to charge me about 100 dollars to do their test. My question to you guys is this... Can I find out which coil pack is bad without the test and changing each coil pack? Thanks for listening.

You probably have three choices.
Pay the dealer or a shop with the right tools to check the coils.
Swap them one at a time.
Invest in a coil on plug tester which allows you to check the coils without removing them.
Wish I could offer better suggestions, but I don't know of any others.
