limited slip question
Have a 1994 4x4 f150 with limited slip 3.55 8.8 rear end. Forward to reverse and back are banging to much. Question is the tranny seems to shift hard going through the gears can this be caused by the same sloppy limited slip rear end possibly???

Hanky; I think you are probally right the forward parts effect on the rearend causing a banging. I pulled the rear wheels off the ground and changed both rear shaft u joints both worn out bad and the rear end shows no great backlash at all. I think either the tc or tranny is the direct cause of the banging.
I do wonder if the transfer case might be worn to cause a lot of the banging or it is all the fault of the tranny???
Thanks Grumpyo

Update on the banging when shifting from reverse to drive and drive to reverse; I had eliminated everything but tranny which is the problem; I have not found the exact tranny problem but have discovered that the tranny threw the code 628 which was a slip which can from my understanding be caused by multiple things; HOWEVER the big info here we found a tidbit for a guy getting this code and clearing the code to find that fixed the problem; We hooked up the mt2500 and ran the code then deleted the code; after a start and kill and restart the problem disappeared. I have been told it will re appear when a higher temp is reached on a longer road trip. Also told the replacing filter and fluid could possible help with a longer fix. the tranny is old so inevitable that it will be going out but longer the better $$$ I am suspecting maybe the parts of the valve body or the torque converter being the root problem.
I will repost with any further info when available.
thanks for all the help

Udate : I have found the problem or problems ; I had the banging when shifting to reverse and forward and vise versa. after fixing the u joints I still had the issue.
Well as I think is common there were multiple issues; First I would like to tell some things that may save money on people fixing up old high mile vehicles; I at this point took the truck to three tranny shops and a rear end shop an had them listen to the problem. all shops said it was the tranny and would need rebuilding except the rear end shop he just said tranny not rear end. So I pulled the pan on the tranny and filter and dumped the torque converter. all new fluid which were so old I think if possible original fluid. then the issue of codes was fixed but the banging was not gone. the slipping and all was gone. then I did the rear end im sure that oil came in the truck it was so bad it was like mud and I also did the tc just to find the same type fluid. after all the fluids were dumped cleaned and new fluid . the banging is gone except for a barely noticeable bump from the idol being about a hundred rpm to fast, an issue I haven't gotten to yet. Just shows several small problems cause one big one sometimes.
I have to say none of the shops bothered to even check the tranny after I told them the code 628 was thrown they just told me it would need rebuilt.
Thanks for the help
