Passed 499,000 miles on my F150
Passed 499,000 miles on my V8 5.4 Triton 2008 F150 yesterday. It has the original engine and transmission. I’d like to shake hands with the assemblers, designers and tool and dye makers that worked on this one. It has been one tough truck. Congratulations and thanks for your dedication to excellence.
I don’t think I did anything different than most people who do regular maintenance on their vehicles. The one thing I did do that most do not is turn the overdrive off if I wasn’t going to be cruising at least 60 mph or faster. I used the overdrive when I was cruising on a highway or rural state route but all other driving that involved stops and starts I engaged the O/D off on the gear shifter.
Modesty is keeping us from getting the real answer.
Would you mind sharing what you mean by regular maintenance because a lot of folks believe regular oil and filter changes is all there is to regular maintenance, thanks.

Yes lube, oil and filter change about every 5,000 miles. Change air filter as needed. Also transmission fluid change about every 100,000 miles, just drop the pan and change the lower not flush it. The radiator was flushed every 75,000-100,000 miles also. New tires and alignment when needed as well as brakes. I can’t think of anything that I did out of the ordinary, no silver bullet or anything like that. The body is getting rough with some rust and dents. The front grill is missing from when a tree blew down in front of me while I was driving about 50 mph. I locked the brakes and the trunk shattered on the road right in front of me with branches hitting the hood. The truck then broke up the rest of the tree as I couldn’t stop until I went through and past the downed tree. I also carry a tow strap to pull people back on the road when it’s snowy/icy. You are welcome to call if you have specific questions or even look at my truck if you’re not far away.
