There seems to be a VCT in the passengers side valve cover but not in the drivers side valve cover..????
Can it be under the valve cover, I have the manual but it's very limited as with just a 5.4 motor not the 4.6...

Think’n you’re looking at the PCV and it’s electrical component..

The inertia switch is in the right kick panel, but if it were tripped, the engine wouldn’t run at all..

I just saw on a video that I have to remove the valve cover on the 4.6 2007 in order to get to the VCT valve...

What advances the timing on the 4.6 if it has no VCTs...

By design, VCT/3V ranges cam advance/retard to make the best HP/torque through a wider range of RPM’s than a standard fixed cam engine.. Race engines tend to run more cam advance because RPM and torque are more needed and build in the top end. For low end grunt, less advance means better low end power pulling from a stop and low RPM as well as good vacuum for power brakes etc.

The 07 4.6 in the F150 has no VCT components.
Ignition Timing corrections are done within the engine management/PCM.. Cam timing is fixed.

One of the things you might check is the idle vacuum value. If you have a gauge, tap into a manifold vacuum source. With/if restricted cats, large vacuum leaks etc the reading may point to a problem. Low vacuum can point to cam issues, cam timing, comp/balance, valve concerns, if they’re ever suspect. As well as emission components in some cases..
