I wasn't able to tell from your posts if you did one important step as suggested by Bullitt and that was to set the dist assy in and make sure you had the #1 piston on the compression stroke and at TDC on the timing marks.
and wherever that rotor pointed should be the position of your #1 spark plug wire on the cap. If it isn't, take out all the plug wires from the cap and start installing them in the correct direction(clockwise/ counter-clockwise) in the correct firing order for that particular engine. Keeping in mind your #1 plug wire has to start at that location where the rotor is pointing.
Your wire from the ignition should be connected to the + terminal of the coil.
I will check into just what type of ign set-up is used on that particular year and model vehicle and get back to you. Are you sure of how the cylinders are numbered and the correct firing order for that particular engine?,,,,,hanky
