Todays findings i left the fuel pressure gauge hooked up all night. When i got home from work tonight the gauge was still sitting at 32psi.So i put stuff back togther and started it with fuel pressure gauge on.It went straight to 100psi and stayed there This was just at idle.So i shut it off it dropped to 90psi and when i left the garage it was still at 90psi.Did i really get another bad fuel pressure regulator right out of the box or is something else going on?
I just went back to the garage and pulled the fuel return off of the rail and im getting no fuel out of the return. Is it possible the fuel rail is plugged not allowing a return and over pressurizing the system?
If your fuel pressure regulator has 2 ports under the regulator, one is the fuel supply, and the other is the return to the tank. That is supposed to provide a constant supply of pressurized fuel to the injectors. High fuel pressure can be caused by a defective fuel pressure regulator or a restricted fuel return line from the pressure regulator back to the tank. There is a good possibility the return line is restricted or kinked and interfering with a clear path back to the tank. That needs to be checked and verified open.
It s not unusual for new pressure regulators to be defective right out of the box. Sometimes they will show where manufactured and sometimes not, you can imagine why not.
Anyway, you should be able to blow through the return line back to the tank,,,, if it is open or not restricted.
Depending on what result you get checking will determine what you do next.

I just checked and i can blow air in the return all the way into the tank. Also did a visual check of return line and didnt find anything. And with the fuel pressure regulator off i can blow air all the way thru the fuel rail so no clog there. So im thinking another bad fuel pressure regulator?
ok so correct me if im wrong here. The fuel return line should have little pressure corrrect? The reason i ask is that my fuel return has alot of pressure almost like its feeding fuel as well.yes im sure its the return and not the pressure line.Is this even possible?
Shame , Shame on me !!!!.
I should have asked if you had dual tanks on your vehicle.. This changes a lot of things and puts more possibilities into the mix.
Do you get the same problem with either tank selected?
There is probably more to this than we are being told.

Yes has dual tanks sorry for not mentioning that. The rear tank never gets used hasnt in atleast 8 years that i know for sure.I got the truck after my former boss and dear friend passed away(previous owner). He never used the rear tank cant remember why so i dont ever use it.

You probably aren't going to like this, but we need to determine why that rear tank went south. There are internal check valves in the tank units and unless we know just what is going on , it is somewhat difficult to offer an explanation of just what may be taking place. I always love the reply, "It worked fine all these years, why is something going on now"? One way to bite the bullet would be to replace both tank modules. Might be worth the cost, strictly a personal decision.
The fuel switching reservoir on some has valves inside it and controls where the return fuel goes. What do you think you want to do with this?
