Unhappy 2004 6.0 Died while driving

While driving home last Friday, my 2004 F350 6.0 Decided to up ad die...Ugh. I really enjoy my truck, but these sorts of problems are very frustrating.

After the tow home, $200.00, I used my scan Gage II.

My Ficum shows 48.0/47.5 volts when cranking
ICP 1020
IPR 53.9
Syc 1

It doesn't seem to be a oil pressure problem....I replaced my stand pipes ad dummy plugs several thousand miles ago.

Checked all fuses in fuse block driver's side.

I can hear the fuel pump ad injector clatter when key is turned on.....

I removed the top from the upper fuel filter and watched the bowl fill when the key was turned on....

Doesn't respond to WD40 i the air intake.

Kinda tries to fire once i a while if I long crank for 20/30 seconds....

It was due for a oil change when this happened.

Currently looking for my Forscan so I can run additional tests.

I'm thinking of changing both fuel filters ad going ahead with the oil change.

Any ideas?

Do an injector buzz test with ForScan (and scan for codes)
Also, post up FICM logic power (LPower) when cranking.

Thanks for the suggestion, Retired in September but "other" work is keeping me real busy. I can hear the injectors cycling with KOEO, I'll try to get the Forscan on tonight and get back with results. Scan Gauge II shows no drop in voltage on ficum when cranking, I'll see what forscan says as well. Thanks again, Ken

Be sure to post the Logic Power (FICM LPower), not the 48V FICM MPower.

Injector clatter is good, but the buzz test will give you feedback on each injector.

Hey Bismic, thanks for the reply.

FICUM logic was 14 volts, IPC, IPR, SYC, Oil pressure, etc....all seemed good.

I kept the repair pretty basic.

I changed my upper and lower fuel filters, it was getting time and I already had them in the truck...

The truck started but ran really rough., I added some lucas fuel injector additive...

Then I ran the tests on my Forscan (I really like that thing) again...The computer pointed me to my EGR valve...

I pulled the valve (2 8mm bolts), it was as dirty as I'd ever seen.... I used a wire brush, and some brake part cleaning solvent, replaced the O rings, sprayed and wiped it down with a bit of WD 40 and voila!!!!.... She fired up and is running like a champ....

I changed the oil today and the Farm Boss is large and in charge...

Good deal. ForScan is a very good tool to have. Very thorough on reading codes.

Just an fyi ....... Early on, Ford stated that use of brake cleaner will lead to damage of the seals and even the internal parts of the actuator on an EGR valve. Carb cleaner is recommended to be used. That said, if you were careful, it is probably ok.
