If air got into the ABS module, pretty difficult to bleed without a scan tool.

A scan tool is a piece of automotive diagnostic equipment that it's features are based on it's cost. Just about all scan tools can read codes from the vehicle's computer(s).
In addition a scan tool ,again depending on it's capabilities AND COST, can provide data on the vehicles networks and functions. Some have what is called bi-directional capability where it can energize certain functions to determine if they are working and working correctly. If for example, you wanted to know if there were any stored codes in your vehicle's computer(s) many auto supply stores will read those codes usually free of charge. If you were to type in on Google, "scan tools" it should provide a much better definition than this long winded guy here !
