Default 250 super duty 6.4l showing 1st gear while parked

Truck is parked and shifter is all the way up and the indicator is showing that the truck is in 1st so it won't crank. I can't get the shifter to move at all. Any ideas?

Just want to touch "all maybe" the bases.
The brake pedal has to be depressed to activate a solenoid to release the shift lever.
If the solenoid is not releasing, check if the stop lights are working, and check the fuse.
You didn't say whether the vehicle has a console shift or column shift.
Important to know that.
