Default 99 F250 ABS Light 7.3L

My ABS light is on. Does it normally stay on continuously or does it blink as well to indicate what the problem might be? Can codes be read from the diagnostics port under the dash or someplace else? Have changed the rear wheel speed sensor. Just wondering if error codes need to be reset with a code reader or does disconnecting the batteries reset codes? Any info would be helpful. Trying to find out whether I should replace the ABS sensors on the front end or the module itself. Thanks.
