Default DEF System Issues

I have a 2023 F250 HO. I tow a 13000 lb boat with it. Last weekend I towed the boat maybe 400 miles round trip. I know the DEF usage goes up when towing so I topped off the DEF tank before leaving. The 500 mile low DEF alarm alerted on the return trip. Wow. So I filled the DEF tank and only added 2.5 gallons before the DEF tank over flowed. I understand that the DEF tank is 7.5 gallons on my truck from the internet so I got the 500 mile alarm with 5 gallons left in the DEF tank.

I would rather get a root canal than go to the Ford dealer so I was wondering if there is something wrong with the DEF accounting and if there is a solution.

First post. Appreciate any help. Looking forward to exploring my truck with experienced owners.

Lots of luck with your root canal, which you may have a copayment to cover it all.

The emission system with DPF has many components which could be changed from year to year and hopefully your dealership has the INFO , equip and training to properly diagnose the entire system .AND at no cost to you.
A 2025 vehicle is too new for many folks to have problems that are covered by warranty.

What is the GVW on the sticker for your vehicle and are you overloading it ?

So I went by the Ford dealership and talked to a service adviser who has an F250 with Powerstroke. He said his truck uses a lot of DEF when towing also.

After thinking about it I got the 500 mile alarm after 400 miles of towing. I refilled the tank with 2.5 gallons which means I had 5 gallons left. Seems like I should have had a 1000 mile range with the remaining 5 gallons, not 500 miles but who knows. After the warranty runs out I will hit the delete button.

Make sure you know the good and bad of the emission system in your vehicle.

You might want to check your owner's manual. Some systems will cut power by programmed 20% if a regen cycle is not done when necessary.

If still ignored, may come down to a crawl. ^The DPF, diesel particulate filter,, can become obstructed and display the symptoms of a restricted exhaust .

Guys have tried all sorts of go around and have not heard of any successes yet !
