i was changing out my headlights. and they have led strip lights in them. during the process of changing them and wiring those in we blew the fuse. we replaced it and messed up once again and it should’ve blown the fuse but it didn’t and now i have no running lights at all the dually fender lights no taillights and no running lights in the headlight. my actual headlight bulbs, blinkers, mirror lights, and cab lights work. we have checked all the fuses and were thinking maybe it could be a relay? but i’ve searched and don’t know where to start with that. any help is much appreciated
I know you don't like hearing this, but it will help determine what you might need to do after doing this.
Put everything back to original and see if everything works as it should. If it does, your problem is in what you attempted to change.
Believe me, it is easier to go this path than try to troubleshoot everything you did.
Not knowing everything you did , we would have to start from the beginning and that would consume a lot of time and unnecessary work.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for an hour, then reconnect it. If it doesn't help, buy a capable scanner like foxwell nt510 elite w/ ford and reset your BCM module. Is your car a Ford nobody knows. Check my signature below to see why.
It would help a lot if we knew the info on your vehicle.
If,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you are referring to daytime running lights, they usually use the lo beam at reduced voltage to power them.
Short circuits can cause a fuse to blow. Are you sure you put the right fuse in the right place, errors like that have happened more than once ?
Something else you might check, make sure the connections you redid are good. Sometimes connections can look OK and not be good.
Again not knowing the year , and model of your vehicle., All I could suggest is, to recheck all your work..
it’s a 2004 f350 6.0 dually i will disconnect the battery and then try to reset it, we have checked fuses multiple times and took our time on the connections, it won’t hurt to check again so i will. we are thinking it could be a relay but we changed the relays involving any lighting circuits out and still nothing, unless there is one we aren’t finding. we’ve traced power and it has power at the fuse and out of the switch
Go back to your original post you have new headlights with LED strips, What does that LED strips do do you think it's the DRL that's integrated into your new headlights? Or you are replacing your HL and DRL (a separate component)?
Do you have stock DRL on your F-350?
How do you know you are replacing or adding DRL? How do you know your new HL with integrated DRL are using the factory DRL existing wiring and relay?
If your truck doesn't have stock DRL you might have it prewired but no relay at the relay junction box, you have to buy and add.
There are still so many uncertainties and info you haven't provided and no pics from you whatsover, so I can only provide as much info as possible and you will need to troubleshoot that all by yourself.
DRL below:
Diagrams-ALL index page above (to help navigate the huge pdf easier), the pdf below covers your whole truck, so as Locations-ALL below.
Your 04 doesn't have BCM module, so resetting with a scanner or disconnect the battery doesn't work.
checked all fuses over with a light. all good. replaced all the relays seen here and the ones in the engine bay. i don’t know if i’m missing a relay somewhere. i attached a trailer today and all the lights worked on the trailer. i thought with it being a dually that the marker lights were apart of the trailer circuit.
