Could you be a little more specific by just what you mean by "disconnected" ?
Whenever the vehicle is started and driven without depressing the button on the shift lever when the correct speed is reached it will shift into overdrive. When the OD button is depressed while driving , it blocks the trans from going into overdrive and at this time the lite is on. If the button is depressed again the lite goes out and the trans again can go into overdrive. If the button was depressed blocking it from going onto overdrive and the vehicle is shut down it will automatically reset when restarted and permit it to go into overdrive.
What is happening with your vehicle?

HI Hanky
I noticed it when I accidently pushed the button on the gear shift. The light didn't come on. The van had been into a repair shop for the safety disconnect when the van was in park ir would not engage the safety cutoff and we used to have to start it in neutral.

I am not clear on your description of the repair when it was in the shop.
In any event, the OD lite (TCIL) ,Transmission control indicator lite, is fed by the key switch then through the transmission range selector (switch that tells the trans you have selected drive, low reverse, etc.,) then to the Powertrain Control Module (computer). All that you need to know is , there is a problem with the range selsctor which I believe the shop adjusted somehow incorrectly. They corrected your original problem by changing its position and created another problem at the same time . I believe that is where your problem lies. Special tool is required to obtain the correct setting for this switch/sensor. If the shop doesn't have it , it's by trial and error. It would probably be best to let them know of the new problem since they did the repair and now you know a little about the vehicle.
