Default F450 rear hub noise

I’ve got a 99’ F450 cab and chassis dually with rear disc brakes. The hub sounds like it has metal chunks sliding around in it. Brakes are off so I know it’s not them. Any ideas before I tear into it?

A good part of the time those noises are the remains of broken parking brake shoe return springs or shoe retainers. Depending on where you reside and drive the parking brake cables have a tendency to bind due to rust and non use. Replacement is the better solution.

Thank you for your reply. Truck came from Colorado to Indiana. I haven’t used E brake in awhile due to being broken in the cab. I just leave it in gear. I’ll be pulling it apart on Thursday so I’ll let ya know what I find.

Is there an easy way into that or does the whole hub have to come off?
