Default fuel leak

i have a 99 7.3 on the top of the motor i have a black cap looks like it is part of the fuel system im thinking that there is a filter under it its leaking fuel on top of the motor looks like you can unscrew with a 1/2 rachet and replace the filter and maybe it has a oring on it or a part of it i wanted to ask some one before i did something wrong and messed up i have done enough of that and cant afford to do that if you can help i will be greatful thank you

From what you describe it does sound like the fuel filter assy. Before you open it up get a replacement filter , they just about all come with all the gaskets/ o' rings you will need to do it right. You can do it , piece of cake just keep everything very clean.
