Default Parking Brake Foot lever jammed

There seems to be a flat coiled spring which is apparently broken in the PB lever assembly. I think it is used to retract the lever(pedal) back up to the "off" position.

I tried to remove the entire PB Lever assembly but it is covered over by a rectangular electronics box that sticks out of the firewall.
Any advice on how to remove the PB Lever assembly without making a mess of something else?

The reason for removal is that the PB lever can't be applied. It jams about half way down. Prior to the discovery of the broken flat coil spring the PB worked perfectly.

Thank you!
Eric

If you are planning to replace the pkg brake assy yourself, take your time and carefully remove what you have to remove to do the job . If possible make note of the steps you did on removal and when you are done replacing the parking brake unit refer to your notes and put it back together.
It's a challenge that you can handle if you make a note of each step you take to get to the part(s) you need to replace. That way you don't have to remember every step and you won't forget anything.
