Default Re-Gearing an SD

Hey all:

I have a 2001 4x4 ext cab SD 250 with the 5.4 motor. The thing has the 4.10 gearing and I would like to start finding out if it would be worth it to re-gear it lower, maybe to a 3.73 or 3.55. Has anyone done this? What/how did you? How much did it cost for parts/labor, etc. Could this be done by someone with moderate knowledge? Would it be easier to get a complete rear end and just swap everything out? Any tips or advice would be great. Send emails to me at sierra25@rochester.rr.com.
Thanks in advance for the help

Other then gas mileage and top end speed I see no reason to switch.

4.10's give you the best accleration, towing power, and tire shredding torque.

It would be a job, and you would be better off finding a axle with those gears in it to swap in, instead of swapping gears.

later,
Dustin
