Default starting problem

I have a 2001 F250. It started having starting problems. I thought it was the fuel pump because sometimes you couldn't hear it start up, so I had it replaced, but that didn't cure the problem. Sometimes when I try to start my truck it will crank but never turn over. If I put the gas pedal to the floor then try to crank it, it will start. It seems like it is getting flooded before I get it started. As I said, this doesn't happen all the time. I don't want to start replacing parts not knowing what it is. Already spend $200 on fuel pump. Anybody else having this problem or know what it could be?

It sounds like your throttle position sensor is going bad...

I would check there next since you already replaced the fuel pump

dcochran:
It is not necessary to throw parts at the problem. It is less expensive to clean, test and reuse parts that test o.k.
It would help to know the engine you have and how many miles your truck has on the odometer. If the CEL is on get the codes read at parts store.

Not knowing the details I assume it is a gasoline engine and it has many miles.
Check and replace: ignition parts: plugs, wires, coil pack.
check and clean major electrical contacts at the battery, alternator and ground straps/ ground connections.
Check the air filter, clean MAF sesnor, clean EGR valve and passages. Clean throttle body.
Check for vacuum leaks.
Check fuel pressure, check fuel pressure regulator.
Check TPS.
If you don't know how to check a part search Youtube for the procedure.
