Default What to buy???

Hi I'm new on here and imagine this question being put forth quite a bit.

Either way I am looking at buying a f-350 superduty, and I'm unsure which way I should go.

Heard a lot of negative things about the 6.0L's so wondering what everyone's take is on that for starters?? (are there certain years that were worse than others or all have the same issues??)

Any of the 7.3L trucks I have looked at either have quite a few km's on them already or their price is the same if not higher than some of the much newer fords.

The 08's with the new 6.4L are a little more than I am wanting to spend at this time so I'm keeping the budget around 17,000-20,000 at the most.

If you guys have any input on the situation at hand any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and hope to get a ton of info.

interesting how there are so many views and yet no one has an opinion. It would really help a lot if some people would give their opinions on which route they would go??? thanks again!

A good to best bet for shopping out a 6.0 IMO would be to find a late M/Y and lowest mileage rig you can afford and to go shop for.. Also, make sure the the truck has had all its 'regular services' done, and at the correct specified intervals or close too.. See if there is any included service documentation if through a private owner.. FOR SURE, have your local Ford store run an Oasis Report on the trucks VIN (Service Dept will run it at no cost) and it'll give you all the warranty and any recall work/repairs done by Ford.. If the truck has been used under severe conditions, or looks to have been run extra hard, keep looking (again opinion) for a truck that has had good quality care rather than just a good deal )..

If you want more piece of mind, have any truck of interest checked out by a tech familiar with the 6.0.. There really is no for sure answer IMO when looking for a high tech diesel especially when many could possiblity have had power being added at some time, more so to the 6.0,, but looking for the best info and/or any history for the truck as well as any gauges, pipes, chips/tuners ect may help point to a truck that has run harder over a stock engine that has worked as rated.

Get the Oasis Report, look the truck/engine over well.. Look for any signs of 'add on' equipment, oil leaks at the bed plate or collecting there, oil pan hanging drips, 'white deposits' at the degas bottle area or on top of the engine around the bottle, or any signs that the engine has had any work done 'outside' of Fords reach..

Make an informed decision with all the info. you can find out prior to any purchase, and see yourself over/under the engine and truck, or have it checked out before a purchase..
