06 ford 500 has a noise while in park and goes away when put into gear

Car sounds horrible. When I am in park it sounds like a whining noise. It goes away as soon as u put it in gear... can anyone help? Or has ur car sounded like this.. it has that CVT transmission in it

There is a metal belt that connects the pulleys in the trans. If the belt is worn it could be the source of the whining noise.
