Default 2007 500 with code PO61B

I have to share this and hope it helps others. I bought my 2007 500 SEL used about 6 months ago cause it looked and ran like new until I went on vacation 3 days ago. we pulled out of the driveway and it stalled, when I drove away the wrench light came on. I drove it a mile and came back home. started it up and left again then the wrench and check engine lights came on, oh no! drove 50 miles before I decided to come back home, took it to autozone to have codes read, it was PO61B and it suggested I needed new TBI. I went online and saw some people saying to check the air filter. I disconnected the battery and checked the airfilter, it was kind of dirty so I shaked the dirt off and put it back, it's kind of tricky, you have to make sure you put the filterbox on right to seal it. to my surprise it returned to normal, I just got back from vacation and it ran great for 300 miles. when the engine lights were on it totally lacked power, acceleration was the main problem. I am 50 years old with a lot of experience with cars and this was a new one for me. message is if you get this code check the air filter and make sure the box is on right and secure. a new TBI is $300-600! airfilter is $20. I think my problem was either a dirty airfilter or my airfilterbox came loose and sent wrong messages to the massairflow sensor which in turn messed up the TBI

A GOOD mechanic would REPLACE the dirty air filter before going on any vacation. You DON'T just shake the dirt out. And clean the inside with wet rag, BEFORE installing new filter--WIX best!!!

I just got an e-mail with your reply to my 3 year old post so I don't see how old your reply is but anyhow this happened to us a few more times and it turns out all I have to do is shut the car off for a few seconds, restart it and the check engine lights go away and it drives fine so I don't think it had anything to do with the air filter in the first place, from what I've read it could be a dirty air plenum among other things, last 3 years I've just been using higher grade gas and some gas treatment here and there and the problem has gone away, 125000 miles and it is driving great right now, thanks for your reply, sharing info can help people, and I see what you said about the air filter but we were only going 50 miles away so I didn't think air filter was to important
