Can someone please set the record straight on the transmission fluid filter? I got one guy on a FB group stating he just replaced his filter by dropping the vertical 'pan' on the front of the transmission. He referenced part Duralast Automatic Transmission Filter TF445 from AutoZone. Then I read in comments you are not supposed to replace that filter. What gives?

BTW vehicle in reference is the 2005 Five Hundred 6 speed Aisin.

That filter you linked states its for the 12 bolt pan, I do not believe either of the two transmissions have 12 pan bolts. I know the CVT transmission has a filter, the Aisin transmission does not show a filter in the Ford workshop manual.

Sounds like a good mechanic for warning you and not just doing the job for money. Any updates?

To access the drain plug on the 6-speed, do I have to remove the battery and all the stuff there?

yes it’s buried in there. Easiest way is to slowly fill if thru the dipstick tube. Measure what you take out and refill that amount. Check level with dipstick. 3/8” clear tubing fits nicely in dipstick tube and small funnel. Need about 18” of it. Use correct fluid like Mobil 3309 from Amazon

I have a 2007 ford five hundred, with the Asian 6 speed, it does have a 12 bolt pan, thought the pan filter was under the pan on the front of the tranny.. But i was wrong, when i took the pan off it was the valve body under it. Went to a part store and got cvt fluid, little did i know it wasn't the right stuff, although it was cvt fluid,. Went to another part store and was informed on it taking a certain type of cvt fluid. and it was suggested to me to add a special additive to it before putting in new fluid. My trans, slipped previously. After that was done another problem came up. Tried taking for a test drive but would not go over 20 mph. and a hole was melted in the plenum from the egr valve, after some research it talked about converters, took them off, was dirty, but i cleaned them and they looked good. Used a flashlight to check them out. Put it back together and it happened again, replaced egr valve and again it happened. At this point i am getting fed up. Any suggestion on my melting a hole in the plenum? Thanks in advance.

Default 2005 with only 5k miles!!

Just bought a 2005 Five Hundred with only 5k miles.
It was well maintained but would it need fresh CVT fluid due to age as opposed to mileage?
