Default Help with P1221 Code

Hello Everyone,

I am working on a 2006 Ford Five Hundred v6 FWD. I am dealing with a P2112 code after replacing the throttle body. This code only pops up if i drive the car by pushing decently on the throttle and doesn’t pop up if i drive slowly through the gears.

I am also experiencing issues with the car harshly downshifting which i think is connected. I was thinking of getting the pcm updated or reflashed. Any ideas on what it could be before i try that?

I thought I gave you some pinpoint tests in pdf on the other thread that you started at: https://www.fordforum.com/forum/ford...driving-50100/
You didn't test your throttle position sensor yet?
Throttle body, doesn't matter it is electronic or drive-by-cable or drive-by-wire, can only do so much. If you think there is a communication problem between your throttle body and your car computer you need to troubleshoot more at the TPS.

If you check the TPS and if it checks OK, you might want to read up on the APPS ,accelerator pedal position sensors,so you would have some idea of how they work and what they do so you would have some idea of how to test them and verify if their signals are getting to the PCM and then if the PCM's signals are ALWAYS getting to the throttle body motor. This will require a little more than just replacing a part and you may not be prepared to go this route..

Exactly, do a little reading first. Briefly:
drive-by-cable throttle body for older cars: throttle cable on gas pedal -> throttle body (mechanical type) -> TPS -> ECU

electronic throttle body for your 5 hundred: APP -> ECU -> throttle body (electronic type) -> TPS -> ECU
On this type your ECU can talk to throttle body but your throttle body can only listen, can't reply, can't send feedback directly back to ECU. It's indirectly thru TPS, and TPS is the middleman but he can't send feedback back to throttle body as well.
Understand the concept first then it's much easier to troubleshoot the problem.
