My son & daughter in law just bought an 06 500 w/77k on the clocknice car, fleet car, looks and drives great except for the surge and die thing. When you start the car and go from park to drive or reverse it sometimes surges (big time) and then dies. The check engine light comes on and this time it's stayed on. We have about 20 days of warranty left from the used car dealer. Is this a common problem? A tsb issue? A recall issue?

I had a similar problem but my car would never turn off. Get the throttle body cleaned out that fixed the jumping my car was doing when I would put into gear. I don't know if the throttle body can get so clogged it makes the car die.

 

Many times if anyone get into the vehicle before the warranty expires , it could void the warranty. Best if you took the vehicle back and have the selling dealer fix it.

 

For that vehicle there should be an open recall to clean the throttle body on you're vehicle and reprogram the PCM. Call any local dealer and give them the VIN and ask if any recalls are are open.

 

My moms 500 has the same issue it seems for hers there is a recall to replace the throttle position sensor which is a common suspect for the rpm surge when shifting from park to reverse or netrual to reverse or drive. Her car also will sometimes surge forward when this happens she notice it wont do that when the ac is off. Just haven't had the time to take it into the dealer for them to replace it yet.
