Default 2009 Focus SE Starting Malf

Twice in the last few months, when I go to start the car, it does not start. I hear the fuel pump kick in, but the engine doesn't fire. And another weird thing, when I leave up on the key, the starter will continue to engage for another five seconds or so. What I have to do is wait a couple of minutes, then turn over the engine for two or three cycles while I pump the accelerator until it finally starts to fire. No engine light. No problems any other time while driving. Took it to the local Ford dealer to see if they had any ideas, refused to even talk about it. Manager claims his techs cannot work on a car unless a code comes up. Any ideas?

I don't know your vehicle, but I am thinking that the ignition lock may be faulty.

But I would not go back to that dealer for anything than a recall fix. A decent mechanic will be able to find a fault without a computer. I wonder if their mechanics can add 2 + 2 without the use of a calculator.
