2011 Focus new key coding issue
Hello All,
I have 2011 Focus and need to add key. . I have the software and VCM2 hardware which i used 5-6 years ago to add key once and it worked fine. Now wife and son lost the 2 keys with chips and i am only left with precut key with no chip on it. Tried again to do it but having issue with software connecting to VCM2 with intermittent connection. Using same laptop i used before. I dont know, maybe VCM2 is the problem. So I have 2 questions : Is it possible to code new key having no key with chip on it? Second is any suggestions of fixing the intermittent connection? It connects then disconnects. I tried all USB on laptop, 2 diff power supply's. Thanks in advance

You do have a few choices.
Call a dealership for road service to come make, and program a key or two for you.
You could also call a certified locksmith to do the same thing at a probably lower price.
You could take your title /registration to a dealership and they usually will cut a key or two for you and program them to your particular vehicle.
The last option would be to have the vehicle towed to one of those locations OR a shop with access to certain security info.
If I left anything out, hopefully someone will list it.

I do not believe you will be able to do what you want since you do not have any programmed keys. Since you don't have any keys cut to your vehicle I do not believe the dealer will be able to help you unless you want to replace all the locks as well.

I mentioned i have a key which is cut but doesn't have chip. I can open door, turn ignition on but cant start the car. I am not 100% sure it will be enough to connect car to VCM2 and I cant test because of the problem between VCM2 and laptop. That's is one of my questions, is this key enough to program a chip which i already purchased.
If this is enough someone with VCM can also help me.

Ive never had a issue with a VMC2 itself, I would replace the cables to start. Granted I use the Ford program not ForScan so I dont know how that system works.
Since you do have a cut but not chipped key I believe your option would be to have the dealer cut two new chipped keys based off your existing key, using the VMC2 delete the keys in vehicle memory then you can start over with programming the two new keys.

I had made a different choice and contacted an emergency locksmith who helped me resolve the key coding issue.

The way this works,
You must to have 2 working keys , then you can program up to 8 keys yourself.
If you have 2 working keys, you can purchase addl keys , have them cut then program them yourself
You don't require any special tools to do this, just as stated above and follow the programming procedure.
