A/C compressor
Hello all, got a 2010 ford focus SE automatic. My ac compressor went out and I'm getting one from wrecking yard. Do I need to change expansion valve and receiver drier for a wrecking yard compressor ? Any help greatly appreciated.

Before attempting to throw any answer , we should know just what does "Compressor went out" include.
If the compressor scattered crap through out the system, it needs to be flushed or the crap can destroy a replacement compressor.
Don't recommend just taking a chance and removing and reinstalling another compressor.
When parts are replaced they take refrigerant oil with them and the correct "Type and Amount"must be replaced., not a job for someone that doesn't have the equipment to evacuate the system and recharge it..
If you did everything correctly ,you could have a shop evacuate and recharge the system. I would strongly suggest you learn as much as you can before attempting this .
The question always comes up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,how do you know the compressor is done? If it just doesn't want to energize, it could only be low on refrigerant.
Before attempting to do anything about this, you should use the proper eye safety (GOGGLES) Again read up on the right way to do this.

Yeah it's done it's grinding and rattling inside and it's not being used. I actually wanted to just put one on because the car is a daily driver and years ago I had the factory compressor lock up on me and burned my serpentine belt thus I was stranded. Luckily it was still under warranty. It actually was working fine until we got a extremely hard freeze it locked up for a little then released and it's been rattling every since I understand completely what you're saying.

Since you have a good understanding , Air conditioning doesn't have to be complicated, but there are just some "MUST DO' items and if any are skipped all that work for nothing , well, you know what I am trying to say.
A little FYI, there is a compressor clutch bearing , that if bad will destroy belt etc.
If the problem is inside the compressor, you can just unplug the connector to the clutch assy and have no belt problem.

Not knowing just how late,
The clutch assy can be replaced , and you could rent the puller to do the remove and install job.Just in case you want to replace the clutch assy only , there is a specified clearance you need to allow when assembling the parts , .010in gap between center drive and clutch unit. Again, not that difficult, just need to have the right tools to do the job.No need to empty the refrigerant out of the system.

They don't have a small spacer in between the clutch and pulley? I know on the FS 10 compressor they do but those are on larger ford vehicles by the way what model name for the focus compressors ?
