I think I need a fuel pump
My 2000 Focus Wagon 2.0 SPI runs like it needs a fuel filter. It starts and idles fine and at very light throttle, it seems OK. As soon as its' under a load it runs like its'starving for fuel. It seems like if I turn the ignition off and then re-start it it runs better for a few minutes. I replaced the fuel filter and it didn't seem to make any difference. If I have to replace the fuel pump, how big of a job is it? Do I replace it as a unit or is there a rebuild kit? It has 130K miles and probably has the original pump. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like the pump!! It's not that bad of a job to do. I know on the escort's you take out the back seat and there is a cover. Take off the cover and the top of the tank is right there . Wich is where the fuel pump is. Otherwise you will have to drop the fuel tank to get to the pump on the top of the gas tank.
My Focus is at the dealership as we speak getting a new fuel pump. Free!! We'll see if this solves my problem. Even if it doesn't, I'll have a brand new pump. Thanks a bunch, Mulletman! I owe you one!
