Default Torque Convertor not sitting into transmission correctly

Hello,
My husband is in the process of replacing my 2018 ford focus se 1.0 motor after it blew up at 60k miles. The problem he is running into is that the torque converter is not sitting all the way in the transmission from what he is experiencing. Once everything is bolted to the motor he would turn the engine over and it would have a grinding sound. This is why he is thinking the torque convertor is not in all the way because of the grinding sound happening. He ended up taking the transmission out to try and see if that would help seat the TC but that did not work either. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thank you.

The torque converter has 2 tangs that must align with the oil pump gear in the trans. If the torque converter was forced into that gear it can destroy both the torque converter and the gear.
IF,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that is what happened,,,, the trans will need to be removed and the torque converter examined. Maybe it was something else , won't know until trans is removed again and everything is checked. If the oil pump gear is damaged, the front pump assy will need to be removed and checked for extent of damage.
Don't recommend attempting this without the proper tools and info. Any seals and gaskets will need to be replaced along with damaged parts. This is all speculation if we believe the trans was forced on assembly so we take one thing at a time. Lets hope it is something else which we don't know at this time without checking further.

Let us know what they find, thanks. Maybe we can offer some assistance to prevent problems.

Could that grinding sound be coming from the starter attempting to mesh with the flywheel, ask him?

Thanks for your response.
After getting everything out when he did yesterday there was no signs of damage. The TC is just not sitting in the transmission how it should. You can hear the clank and it turns correctly but it still wiggles being inside the transmission. There is just not enough space when the motor and transmission are bolted all the way together causing that sound, I am guessing. It just isn't making sense. It makes the 2 clank sounds when it gets in there but it just isnt going all the way in like it should..

When the torque converter is indexed properly and goes into the trans completely you would hear a definite sound that it has bottomed out and gone in all the way.
