First , is this a replacement torque converter?
Second , if so , were you able to compare the one removed to the replacement?
If you did and they were exactly the same, there are two slots in the converter hub that have to index with the two lugs in the front pump gear. If you have the converter out and look in the front of the trans you should be able to see the lugs on the pump gear.Hopefully you didn't force anything because that could complicate things.
When the slots are properly indexed to the gear the converter will slide in and you can feel it bottom out. That's all there is to it.
