Default 1998 Ford Expedition won’t start

I have a 1998 ford expedition that was not starting without taking keys out hitting unlock button on key fob then starting it. No crank. I start till then. Now it is to a point where the parking brake has to be out you have to hit the unlock button on key fob not in door then turn key to on position take it out of then back into park then wait for dash lights to turn off and radio to turn on the it will crank and start no problem. What the heck is wrong. Please help!!!

One of the first things we should do is to check the vehicle for any codes in the computer, that should provide some direction.

I would look towards the BCM and anti theft module (PATS transceiver)

A capable scan tool could run a health check on the BCM , good point.
