2016 f150 2.7 engine coolant over temp warning
Truck drove fine day before I started it next day it immediately says coolant is hot but it is not. Seems to be in limp mode and doesn’t want to start. I replaced cylinder head temp sensor still have same problem any advice? Thanks
Locate ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor, remove the electrical connector and clean both ends (male and female) using contact cleaner, use wire brush if needed. If it can't be cleaned just buy the connector replacement.
Don't trust the temperature on gauge, you need to get the reading of ECT, use a scanner capable to do live data you might be able to retrieve that. Get the ambient temp as well at the same time.
Don't throw part at it, ECT hardly goes bad, most often just the electrical connector that needs cleaning.

Hi Drew,
If you want to try this,
Unplug the CHT clear any codes, and watch what you get..
If you still get the same message, that wire you removed is touching a ground somewhere Look for a spot where that wire might have rubbed against a bracket or sharp edge.and worn through the insulation..

Sorry about that.
You could try a "Forced reset". That involves removing the battery negative cable and connecting a jumper wire from the end of the negative cable to the positive cable where it connects to the battery. This allows the capacitors in the PCM to discharge and will usually remove any codes. If that doesn't work , you will need a capable scan tool.
There is a video where you can see the procedure., I believe by Ford Makuloco
