I have a 1994 f150 with only 118,000 miles on it. It has the 3speed auto w/ the overdrive button. 3 years ago when it would shift into 2nd gear, it would snap your neck, & same thing going into 3rd. Of course the trans shops all said to replace it. I took it to my local repair shop
& he took out the instrument panel & said a circuit was burnt & repaired it, for alot less then a new trans. It worked perfectly until about 6 months ago, it came back. I took it back in & he changed a fuse, then it worked great again. last week when i went on a vacation.
started again. I checked the fuse but it was ok. I can't believe that i have to get another trans because of low mileage. It is only 2wd. Is there something else i can check. HELP!

 

What appears has been happening is , doing "Band Aid Fixes".

They do an incomplete repair by correcting some of the result , but none of the causes.

This is going to require someone with the equip and knowledge to get to the root cause
. Keep in mind it could be something simple ,but the ROOT cause needs to be determined before a correction can be performed.

A good tech will make sure there is no hidden corrosion inside where plugs going to the trans are located. Much easier to separate and look compared to running all kinds of tests.

 

thanks hanky. I will take the plugs off & clean them clean enough to eat off them. Hopefully it will take care of it.
