96 bronco keeps dyeing .....help
96 bronco just died going down the hwy. after sitting for about 30 min it started . went to town an put new fuel filter on it . drove home (12 miles ) and then to friends house and almost home (4miles ) died and restarted few min. later . next day took fuel pressure reading after sitting all night (20psi ) turned key on and got almost 50 psi , started it and got 35 psi and held steady and held when shut off . so eliminated fuel pump and regulator as problem . pull DTC PO 320 so went and got a new crankshaft position sensor and started right up , went for a drive and made it about 1 mile and it shuddered and almost died but didnt , went to town again and it sat for about 6 hours , started and headed for home it died but restarted and made it home . was going to run into town again an hour later but wont start ! i cant figure out whats going on with it , any and all help is welcome please and thank you .
yes , on the first day i checked and didnt have any at first then when i went to check again it fired up with one plug out , shut it off and put plug in and away we went . i have not been around to check it any of the other times it has quit . since the last , or first post it has started and has not quit her yet (girlfriends bronco ) but i dont trust it because i have not done anything more to it since the crankshaft sensor and it quit a couple times after that was put in . im wondering if its the pip ? would that cause an intermittent loss of spark ?
what is a dc amp clamp ? not saying it couldnt happen but its been my experience that when a fuel pump gives it up it just flat out quits and doesnt do this intermittent on and off stuff . thats more along the lines of electrical components that like to work and then not and then work again and then not . dont get me wrong i do appreciate the help and suggestions and ill check out the fuel pump again just to make sure . thank you
The pump current can be accessed via a fused jumper in the fuse panel.. and you are correct, the pump is an electrical component..
Maybe this might help,
Usually if/when an engine is running out of fuel it will die slowly , losing power. When it loses spark, it is just like shutting off the key.
Which symptom do you feel is taking place?
Depending on which symptom you get, will determine what you do next.
What kind of test equip do you have to work with and know how to use?
There is no sense providing a lengthy procedure if you cannot perform it.

i have a test light , dtc reader, volt/ohm meter , pressure/vacuum gauge and even an old school timing light . can use them all , maybe not as efficiently as others but ive got the basics . so i believe its spark , it just shuts off instantly , plus ive taken a pressure reading and still had pressure in the fuel rail .
