Question anybody sharp on 89 ford eletrics

having a problem on my 89 ford chassis motor home. 700 chassis w/460 /C6/ trans/125 amp alt with external volt reg . 2 new regulators alt been off twice checked at Advance & OReilys so it good. but it not getting the low voltage to the regulator to excite the alt to start putting out voltage, if i trigger it with a jumper wire it will kick on but puts out 16-18 volts deff will fry the batt. remove the jumper wire it shuts off the alt. starts and runs fine as long as the battery is charged up. if you let it run you have to release the elect choke or it will load up n die because it not getting voltage either. ANY IDEAS WHAT TO CHECK NEXT
ANYBODY HELP PLEASE

I have to check, but I believe the line from the elec choke heater went to the stator terminal of the alt. Will check on what info I have and get back to you.

Need to know if your charging system has an idiot lite or an ammeter.
If an idiot lite, power from ign switch supplies power to "I" terminal of regulator.
If an ammeter is used, power from ign sw goes to "S" terminal of regulator.
Between you and me, scotch locks are for shoemakers and I can't believe the factory used them. Glad to see you are doing it right !
