Engine search
Hi guys, my name is Anke and I'm new here.
In Germany, my home country, I had a great experience as a member of a motorcycle forum and will not forget the great tips and tricks. I hope you can help me with my question about my beloved 2011 Ford Flex SEL. My husband was driving the car when it suddenly stopped. Total engine failure, most likely the water pump has failed. Oh well. We are going to have a used engine installed. This mechanic of mine is not sure which one though and Palmetto Ford is not very helpful either. These are the different engines my mechanic has tracked down: 3.5L, VIN C (8th digit), engine oil cooler (tow package) / 3.5L, VIN C (8th digit), w/o engine oil cooler; from 11/29/10 / 3.5L, VIN C (8th digit), w/o engine oil cooler; thru 11/28/10. Is there anyone among you who knows exactly what criteria to use to find the right motor? (My Flex doesn't have a trailer hitch) Is there a specific number that you can see on a specific sticker that is located in a specific place on/in the car?
For all your great answers I say thank you in advance. Have a great night!

It is not always easy to find an exact engine the same as the one removed, but the smart thing to do is use an exact replacement..
The reason for this is, the manufacturer made changes from year to year AND some changes were made MID Year.
The 8th digit of your vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) tell us which engine was installed in your vehicle when built.
That VIN is found on the driver's door or door post or your vehicle title or registration.
When installing a different engine from "as built", there are too many things that can become problems.
