the best thing to do is go and get a new flex plate and replace the starter. and no it's not common practice to weld broken parts such as flex plates or the starters

Don't be welding stuff like that. What does flex mean?

Our 1996 P-up with 88,000 airport miles on an automatic transmission work truck had a tooth or two missing on the ring gear and a lot of metal was gone from the starter's pinion gear.

A new ring gear and starter at the Chevy dealer ran the county $1540.00

Shortly thereafter we traded her in on a 'best bid' 2013 Ford 150 with small 5.0 V-8 and six speed auto. I hope we did not screw up. The Ford was $3,000 bucks cheaper then the Chevy. Boy does that thing go like a raped ape!

Two things I don't like about the Ford F-150;
1~ Top-O-Box to bottom of box nobody can reach into the box. It's too tall.
2~Should have gotten the F-250. The F-150 tows our trailers like poop. Going to need some helper springs on those back leafs.

I recommended we stay away from the Eco-Boost engines. Too new and too scary. Tiny engine doing a big job might puke?

skip.
