installation of front lic plate bracket

installation of front lic plate bracket
I'm trying to install license plate bracket to front of car. Per instructions, I drilled 3 holes into bumper cover.
Next instructions say "rivet in place using 3included rivets"
My dilemna is how to to that.One end of rivet is rounded with a gap that goes around shaft, the other is.threaded.
Do I simply hammer the threaded end so that rounded end goes into bumper cover? Seems like thatwill simply dent the bumber cover hole.
Anyone have any advice?.
