Ford Freestar 2004
I had the engine shaking in my van espec. when i was around 80mph, my check engine light came on and the code was po116, misfire on start up after reading the forum there was talk about replacing ignition coil, plugs and wires..This engine felt like it was misfiring and it last for a few days, (3) on the 4th day the check engine light was off and no shaking (weird). I talked to a old chap and he said to replace the fuel filter in which i did and i took the old filter and cut it apart, if was filthy and i never had the check engine light code back on and no more issues. If i followed the forum advice i would of been into this about 150 bucks but it only actually cost me 15 bucks, if any 1 has this issue start with the fuel filter first

Thanks.
This is certainly easy to overlook. Gunk in fuel filters is not that common anymore. Water in the fuel filter is not common anymore either. Today's fuels are cleaner and the ethanol in it prevents water logging the filter. I own a '03 Windstar since '05 and I never had the filter replaced and it is running without fuel related problems.
