What are these keys? Are they the same as two ignition keys?

 

The tumbler cuts are the same, but it ends there.
There were/are at least 7 variations of PATS functional systems.
They vary from year to year and model to model.
Both,,,,,,,,the key gets coded to the vehicle and the vehicle gets coed to the key. If either one is incorrect or not functioning some vehicles will crank over , but not start, while some will not even crank over.
An owner can code up to 8 keys , but MUST have 2 working keys to do that.
Newer vehicles now with push button start MUST have the remote in the vehicle or you can push the button all day and it won;t do anything.
To answer your question, ,a coded,working key in the ign will allow the vehicle to start and stay running..

 

Thank you for the reply. The reason I was asking is, Sometime after I bought the F250 truck I took the door code from the manual and put it in my wallet. Recently I was looking for my keys and could not find them. A thought entered my mind about to use the door code to unlock the door to see if keys were in the truck. Well, the code card was not in my wallet anymore. I looked HI and Low for it and did not find it. So I opened the manual for more instructions about the door code. Instructions say go to the dealer. I went to the local dealer (not the dealer I bought the truck from). and manager told me for a $65 fee and they would get me the code. Ok, I said I'll come back at next oil change and we'll do it then. So, wheels are still turning in my head and I get the manual out again and read some more.
That's when I come across the paragraph about Passive anti-theft keys. And thus asking about them here. The instructions say use those keys to find the door code. So being unsure about the keys I followed the instructions using the remote control ignition keys and was able to get the code. So now I know what the passive anti-theft keys are. They are the programmed ignition keys which came with the vehicle.
