Default vibrating engine

I have a 2012 ford escape xlt with 2.5 4 cylinder, automatic trans. The problem is the engine shakes the whole car when engine is warm and in gear at a stop. happens in drive or reverse. Have done tuneup including clean the intake, new airfilter. Installed new motor mounts, 2 times. had mechanic check all vacuum lines and had the tranny checked out and everything is good. Still having the same problem. It started at around 95000 miles and now have 99000 miles. Does anybody have ideas or info on what will fix this problem. I have had it to 2 ford dealers and the first told me to change motor mounts, again, and the other said they have wasted enough time trying to find the problem and just gave up trying. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Some Fords have liquid filled motor mounts that reduce a lot of problems , but they are expensive and most places install the cheaper mounts.

It might be a good idea to look for a different reason than mounts.

Does the vehicle do the same thing when it has not warmed up?

All mounts are ford OEM. It only does it when engine is warmed up. When you start it cold the rpm is higher and it does not shake.

Why do I have the feeling we are not talking the same thing?

Here's what I mean.
If you ask 5 different people to describe a misfiring engine, you will get 5 different descriptions as to what may be happening.

Somehow we got steered into a motor mount problem when it is something entirely different.

From what I gather so far , we are not getting an accurate description of exactly what is taking place.
This may only be clarified by actually seeing the problem and not going by what an inexperienced person may be suggesting.
For this reason , a VERY thorough description will be necessary to even get some idea of exactly what is happening.
Something like this will probably best be served by a reliable shop. Not necessarily over the net.

Well, the escape has been to 2 different ford dealers and the only thing they could come up with is motor mounts. They have been changed twicw , the second time with ford parts. Obviously it's not the problem. I have had it to 2 other reliable mechanics shops ( not back yard mech.) and they tried numerous other things. Tune up was done, transmission was checked and torque converter checked, all good. When the engine is warmed it still shakes when in drive or reverse. It has been diagnosed by 5 different mechanics and nobdy can figure this out. ford mech. are supposed to be ford trained and certified to fix problems like this and they gave up. what more info can I give to help with this?

Motor mounts will not have any change in effect whether the engine is cold or warmed up.

What will, is, the engine runs richer when cold , hence the smooth operation
. But, when the computer system goes into closed loop and mixture is more closely controlled and if there is for example any questionable part that is functioning borderline ,a definite difference will be noticed.
A vacuum leak resulting in in a lean mixture that is not being corrected by the system for some reason can produce a vibration, rough idle and any other type description.

Suggest you consider another shop and have them do a complete diagnostic procedure.. They should be able to come up with the cause and repairs necessary to correct.

Ya. I'll try another shop soon. Have to get over all the money I've spent already. Hardly worth it but I use this escape as a toad behind my motorhome. I really would like to fix it and continue using it that way. Thanks hanky.

As a starting point , a compression check should be done to verify engine condition , then go from there.
If it runs fine when cold, then gets rough after warming up. that tells us the computer system is attempting to control the engine , but whatever is happening either is not getting reported to the computer to correct the condition or maybe it can't.
This just needs an experienced person that knows how the system is supposed to work and then has the tools and info to pin down the problem.

A good place to start would be to connect a scan tool and look at the live data when the engine is warmed up. Fuel trims would indicate a rich or lean condition as well as sensor output signals. It appears it could be a misfire condition when a load is placed on the engine.
