AC issues - new compressor
Hi All,
2005 Freestar, dual a/c front/back and individual controls for driver and passenger.
Old compressor seized up and I replaced with a new compressor. The problem I have now is that it is fast cycling with no cold air.
The pressure on the low side goes from 40 to about 70 during the cycle and the high side is going from 150-300 during the cycle. The clutch engages for 1-2 seconds and turns off for a few seconds while the pressure builds back up and then the cycle repeats.
Research online suggests a bad expansion valve. Do you know of anything else I should check?

I have several posts on the Freestar A/C system...
Since your compressor failed, you should have replaced the A/C condenser (as these are NON-FLUSHABLE), replaced the accumulator/dryer (should be replaced any time the A/C system is opened for repair), replaced the front liquid line orifice (has screen filter that's probably plugged), replaced the rear liquid line filter and flushed the lines and front/rear evaporators. There's more, but we'll start here. Was any of these things done? You may already be causing oil starvation to the new compressor.

"bcacbe", since you have front and rear A/C, you will have a metered orifice w/filter for the front system (need to remove the upper and lower cowls to get to it) and an expansion valve for the rear (line filter for it is underneath the van). Review my posts for A/C repair and if you want to install an aftermarket in-line filter, also review mine and "tojoski's" post on installing an additional in-line filter.
