Default Torque converter or solenoid?

Hey guys,

I own a freestar 2004, 4,2L, 100 000kms. Transmission failed while driving on the highway. It has been recalled in 2012...
code: P0741. I checked the pressure at the pressure line port on the trans, it get 80psi for a minute and then it dies to 0.
During that minute the car is able to drive/reverse etc but then loses power. I have to turn off the engine and on again to regain some power.
I’ve heard about the issues with the torque converter on this model (even the recalled ones...), but could it be the solenoid? What are your thoughts?

thanks guys!

You have described all the classic symptoms of a stripped spline inside the torque converter.
What should be done is to replace the torque converter and input shaft that drives the trans pump.
Trans needs to come out, replace input shaft, sealing rings on shaft, converter hub seal and converter. . If course trans filter and fluid change too.

Converter replacement recall in 2012 which he had done probably addressed the converter replacement.. Anyway, he says he can get it to go for a short time before it stops, then restarts and it moves for about a minute.. I had a converter strip out and you are left dead in your tracks, once it is stripped you aren't going anywhere. It won't move at all when that happens. He got some other issue and would best be addressed by a transmission technician.Could be the TCC solenoid but it could be several other possibilities too..
